Our Summer term ends on the 21st July. On that night, there will be the usual “Show and Tell” of our work, open to all current members, with refreshments. All members are invited to come along even if they have nothing to show. Also, this is a good time to bring any material (media, tools, books, etc.) that you no longer need and want to sell or share.
Our theme for the second half of the current term is “Pointy Things” – let your imagination run wild with this one! Anything that has a point – pins, pyramids, porcupines and everything in between. It will be really interesting to see everyone’s take on the new theme.
Hampshire Open Studio – once again, we will be exhibiting at the Baptist Church Colne Avenue at the end of August: from Monday 24 through and included Saturday 29 August, each day from 11AM to 4PM. Please bring any artwork you want to exhibit along to the end of term meeting.
Please note: Only original works can be exhibited for sale, including prints etc. Copies of work can only be exhibited with the express permission of the original artist (or reference of free of copyright licence photos). Work completed at workshops can be exhibited if the person running the workshop gives permission and is named as the originator.
Each member is fully responsible for the labelling of their artwork, which should include:
- Title of the artwork
- Name of the artist
- Short media description (ex. Oils on canvas; Mixed media on paper; etc.)
- Date of the artwork (month and year)
- Any reference to others for the inspiration, or simply “own work”

Autumn/Winter term 1st September – 15th December 2026
Spring term 5th January – 23rd March 2027
Summer term 13th April – 20th July 2027

For the club, 2026 started on the 6th January, with our first meeting of the year at the Oasis Academy. This term will run until the 24th March, with no break for half term.
Each term we have one or two themes for members to use as a starting point in their work. Themes for the new term are:
- Faces – 6th January to 10th February: explore different techniques, medias and styles to paint famous faces, dear faces or just some interesting ones. They don’t even need to be human.
- Using Primary Colours – 17 February to 24th March: challenge in creating artwork with the use of Primary Colours only (yellow, red and blue), with the addition of white and black only. A great way to review your colour chart knowledge! On the 17th, William will be demonstrating his colour mixing skills and showing us the wide palette that just three colours can produce.
The themes are for guidance only. Members can decide to create something else instead if they don’t feel inspired. Everything is optional!
All artworks created during the term are then shared with the members in our summary evening on the last term meeting.
Karen is also working on getting a skittles social event, more information to be shared at a later day.

Our lovely member Linda Penny won the prestigious Red House Open Art 2025, by the Hampshire Cultural Trust
Linda, who is a real star and inspiration when it comes to pastel artworks, entered her painting called “Structure 5” (see image below) in the Red House Open Art 2025, an exhibition run by the Hampshire Cultural Trust at the Red House Museum in Christchurch. She was announced as the winner on Saturday 25 October 2025.
All of the art club members are wishing the best for this victory and we hope she can enjoy a good celebration!
